Seminoles Snap UNLV Winning Streak

LAS VEGAS ( - The UNLV women's tennis team saw its six-match winning streak snapped by No. 22 Florida State on Wednesday, 6-1, at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

In the second meeting ever between the programs, the Lady Rebels fell to 9-4 on the year while the Seminoles improved to 9-4.

FSU started the morning by taking two of three doubles matches for a 1-0 lead. UNLV did win on court two as Aleksandra Josifoska and Janine Erasmus downed Kerrie Cartwright and Daneika Borthwick 8-5.

In singles play, the hosts picked up their only point at the second position where Lucia Batta, ranked 103rd, got the win after taking the first set before Mia Vriens retired.

At the top of the lineup, a battle of ranked players saw No. 50 Borthwick rally to upset No. 24 Josifoska, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7). The other ranked Seminole player, No. 97 Francesca Segarelli, also used a super-tiebreaker to win her match on court three, 6-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3) over Nives Pavlovic.

Next up, UNLV hosts Marshall on March 22 starting with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission to all matches is free of charge.
