Women's Tennis Springs Upset|

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's tennis team earned its first win over a top-50 opponent this season with a 5-2 upset of No. 50 SMU on Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Lady Rebels improved to 10-5 on the year while the Mustangs fell to 10-6.
UNLV started the morning by winning the doubles point for the first time in three matches. SMU took the match at No. 3 but Lucia Batta and Nives Pavlovic downed Aleks Malyarchikova and Vaszilisza Bulgakova at the top spot, 8-6, and Aleksandra Josifoska and Janine Erasmus teamed up to beat Holly Verner and Hristina Dishkova at the second position, 8-5.
In singles play, the hosts dropped the first set on four of six courts but rallied nicely. Josifoska, ranked 24th in the nation, finished off No. 111 Malyarchikova, 7-5, 6-0, at the top spot to improve her overall record to 23-7. Batta, ranked 103rd, came back against Edyta Cieplucha, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 2 to improve her season record to 24-5 overall and a sparkling 14-0 in dual matches. Pavlovic also rallied, getting by Bulgakova 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3, while Iren Kotseva doubled up her opponent, Yana Erkeeva, 6-3, 6-3, at the bottom of the lineup.
Next up, UNLV will take a break before opening Mountain West play with a trio of matches in San Diego, starting with a meeting with rival San Diego State on April 5.
