SAN DIEGO (UNLVRebels.com) - The 67th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team opened up its Mountain West schedule in disappointing fashion, losing to No. 61 Wyoming for the first time in 16 all-time meetings, 4-3, during a neutral-site matchup Saturday on the campus of San Diego State.
The Lady Rebels fell to 9-6 while the Cowgirls improved to 9-6.
Wyoming got off to a good start by taking two of three doubles matches to earn a 1-0 lead. UNLV's only win came on court two where Lucia Batta and Manon de Lanlay prevailed 8-3 over Sasa Nemcova and Alexandra Kovacs.
The teams then split six singles matches, with the Lady Rebels winning the top half of the lineup. Batta, ranked 59th in the nation, swept Veronica Popovici 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1; Aleksandra Josifoska, ranked 125th, won 6-3, 7-6 over Simona Synkova at No. 2; and Nives Pavlovic rallied past Kovacs 1-6, 7-5, 6-0 on court three.
