Lady Rebs Fall In Conference Opener

SAN DIEGO ( - The 71st-ranked UNLV women's tennis team lost the key doubles point and fell 4-3 to No. 55 San Diego State to open Mountain West play on Friday at the Aztec Tennis Center.

The Lady Rebels dropped to 10-6 overall.

UNLV started the morning by winning just one of three doubles matches as SDSU took a 1-0 lead. Lucia Batta and Nives Pavlovic downed Laura Antonana-Iriarte and Michela Casanova, 8-3, at the top spot.

The teams split singles play as the Lady Rebels' two ranked players both won. Aleksandra Josifoska, ranked 32nd, downed Julia Wais, 6-2, 6-3, at the top position, while Batta, ranked 90th, swept Alicia Aguilar, 6-4, 6-4 on court two. UNLV picked up its third point when Janine Erasmus downed Tami Nguyen, 6-2, 6-3, at the fifth spot.

Next up, UNLV will face Boise State on Saturday in San Diego.
