SAN DIEGO (UNLVRebels.com) - The 71st-ranked UNLV women's tennis team completed a three-match swing in San Diego with a 7-0 whitewash of New Mexico on Sunday at the Aztec Tennis Center.
The Lady Rebels improved to 12-6 overall and 2-1 in Mountain West play.
UNLV started the morning by winning two of three doubles matches to earn a 1-0 lead. Aleksandra Josifoska and Janine Erasmus downed Sarah Khan and Michaela Oldani, 8-5, on court two after Iren Kotseva and Ella Bourchier defeated Kristin Eggleston and Katie Wookey, 8-4, at the third position.
In singles play, the Lady Rebs won six matches in straight sets to clinch it. Lucia Batta, ranked 90th in the nation, downed Nikolina Grbac, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2; Nives Pavlovic flew by Eggleston, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3; Anett Ferenczi-Bako fought off Khan, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 4; Erasmus swept Oldani, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5; and Kotseva got by Laura Richardson, 6-2, 7-5, on court six. The final point came at the top of the lineup where Michaela Bezdickova was testing 32nd-ranked Josifoska before the UNLV junior standout rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) victory in a super-tiebreaker.
Next up, UNLV will host Nevada, Reno on Saturday starting with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission to all matches at the Fertitta Tennis Complex is free of charge.
