Lady Rebels Fight Off Air Force|
April 21, 2013
FORT COLLINS, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) - Senior Ella Bourchier rallied to win her singles match on court five to give the 61st-ranked UNLV women's tennis team a 4-3 neutral-site victory over Air Force to close out the regular season on Sunday at the CSU Tennis Center.
The Lady Rebels improved to 16-7 overall and closed their Mountain West schedule at 6-2.
Finally getting to play outdoors after the weather cleared did not help UNLV in doubles play as the Falcons took all three matches to earn a 1-0 lead.
In singles play, UNLV got three quick points to take control. Aleksandra Josifoska, ranked 37th in the nation, whitewashed Christina Molina at the No. 1 position, 6-0, 6-0; while Lucia Batta, ranked 82nd, flew by Tiffany Tran, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2. Both Josifoska (30-7 overall) and Batta (32-5) finished undefeated against MW opponents for the second consecutive season and marked only the third time in school history that UNLV saw two players reach the 30-win mark in the same season.
The third Rebel point came on court six where freshman Iren Kotseva breezed past Anastasia Hueffner 6-2, 6-0. AFA would eventually take two three-set matches but Bourchier clinched it by downing Mary Myers 4-6, 7-6, 6-4.
After returning home, UNLV will head right back to the Centennial State for the Mountain West Championships, which start Thursday in Colorado Springs.
