Women's Tennis Heading To Tourney By The Bay|
Jan. 24, 2013
Las Vegas (UNLVRebels.com) - The 51st-ranked UNLV women's tennis team will open its 2013 spring dual-match season by traveling to the fifth annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kick-Off Weekend tournament.
The 15 universities hosting ITA Kick-Off Weekend sites were designated as hosts in order of their year-end 2012 ITA National Team ranking. Three visiting schools will travel to each host site for a four-team playoff. The winning team earns a berth in the 2013 ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship.
The third-seeded Lady Rebels are part of the four-team field in Berkeley, Calif., and will face second-seeded Saint Mary's on Sunday at approximately 1 p.m. at the Hellman Tennis Complex. On Monday, the winner of that match will face the winner of a match between top-seeded host California and fourth-seeded Fresno State, while the losing teams will square off in the consolation match.
"This event includes all of the top programs in college tennis so being a part of the tournament all five years has been a great accomplishment for us," head coach Kevin Cory said. "This weekend will be a real test for our squad and we're looking for a big challenge from the Gaels on Sunday."
UNLV will open its home season on Feb. 8 when it hosts New Mexico State starting at 10 a.m.
