LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV tennis junior Lucia Batta earned her first Mountain West Player of the Week Award of the season and sixth of her career, the league announced Wednesday.

The native of Budapest, Hungary, went a combined 4-0 last week in singles and doubles while her team played in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend tournament in Berkeley, Calif.

With nearly two full seasons left in her Rebel career, Batta is already tied for second at the school for all-time weekly league honors. Elena Gantcheva (2005-08) holds the record with nine while Kristina Nedeltecheva also had six (2007-10).

Batta won both of her No. 2 singles matches last week, topping Catherine Isip of No. 41 Saint Mary's, 6-2, 6-1, and then downing Rana Sherif Ahmed of No. 49 Fresno State, 6-2, 6-4. In doubles, Batta and partner Nives Pavlovic won both of their No. 1 matches, defeating Gaels Isip and Elizabeth Searl, 8-5, and Bulldogs Bianca Modoc and Sophie Watts, 8-3.

The Lady Rebels will next be in action February 8 when UNLV hosts New Mexico State at 10 a.m. at the Feritta Tennis Complex. Admission to all UNLV tennis matches is free of charge.
