Feb. 1, 2012

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV tennis standout Lucia Batta was tabbed Co-Mountain West Women's Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

For Batta, it is the sophomore's second MW honor after also having won it last March 17. Ranked 121st in the nation, the native of Budapest, Hungary, went a combined 3-0 in singles and doubles against players from No. 7 Cal and No. 32 San Diego at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Berkeley, Calif.

She began the weekend by upsetting 36th-ranked Tayler Davis of Cal, 7-5, 6-2, at the No. 2 singles position on Friday. Moving to the top of the singles lineup on Saturday, Batta went on to down USD's Stephanie Hoffpauier in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6. She also won her only completed doubles match, 8-3, vs. the Toreros.

Batta, who shared this week's award with San Diego State's Julia Wais, will next be in action on Feb. 17 when UNLV hosts Utah State at the Feritta Tennis Complex.
