League Feeling Batta About Weekly Award

March 28, 2012

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV tennis sophomore Lucia Batta earned her third Mountain West Player of the Week award this season and fourth of her career, the league announced Wednesday.

The native of Budapest, Hungary, went a combined 5-1 last week to improve her overall record to 25-7 in singles and 18-7 in doubles. She is the first Lady Rebel to win the award at least three times in a season since Kristina Nedeltcheva was named a league-record five weeks in 2009.

Currently ranked 57th in the nation, Batta began by upsetting No. 37 Kata Szekely in three sets to give UNLV a 4-3 victory over then-12th-ranked Tennessee. Batta also swept four matches in MW play in neutral-site meetings with Wyoming and Colorado State.

Batta and the Lady Rebels will next be in action on Saturday when UNLV hosts New Mexico at 10 a.m. at the Feritta Tennis Complex. Admission to all UNLV tennis matches is free of charge.
