LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV tennis junior Lucia Batta earned her second Mountain West Player of the Week Award this season and seventh of her career, the league announced Wednesday.
The native of Budapest, Hungary, turned in two big singles wins at the second position in the lineup last weekend while improving her record to an eye-popping 19-0 in dual matches this year. She won a three-set match against Emma Verberne, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, to help the Lady Rebels down Nevada, Reno on Saturday. One day later, she and doubles partner Nives Pavlovic squeaked past Fresno State's Rana Sherif Ahmed and Melissa McQueen, 9-7, at the top of the lineup to help UNLV earn the match-deciding doubles point. In singles, Batta later topped Aishwarya Agrawal in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
With more than a full season left in her Rebel career, Batta has moved alone into second place at the school for all-time weekly honors. Former All-American Elena Gantcheva (2005-08) holds the record with nine.
Batta and the Lady Rebels will next be in action on Friday when they travel to Colorado State.
