LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV tennis standout Lucia Batta will be competing in her first NCAA Division I Singles Championship as the field was announced Wednesday.
The native of Budapest, Hungary, is the seventh Lady Rebel to earn the honor and first since Kristina Nedeltcheva in 2010. Batta earned the league's automatic bid to the field of 64 by being the highest ranked player in the Mountain West at No. 60.
Named the league's freshman of the year in 2011 and player of the year in 2012, Batta has turned in a spectacular spring season. Her 31-8 overall singles record ties her for seventh all-time at the school for single-season wins. She is 22-2 in dual matches, including going 7-0 in conference action.
The 2012 singles and doubles tournaments begin the day after the NCAA team champion is crowned and will run from May 23-28 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. The single draw will be announced the night before the event.
