LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV women's tennis assistant coach Mark Roberts was named head coach at UTEP on Wednesday.

Roberts was an assistant for the Lady Rebels for the past four seasons under head coach Kevin Cory and twice was named Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Assistant Coach of the Year while in Las Vegas.

"Mark has done a great job over the past four years and was ready to become a head coach," Cory said. "We wish him all the best in the next chapter of his life."

Roberts, who came to UNLV after serving as a teaching pro at the Upper St. Clair Tennis Development Program in Pittsburgh, is a 2004 graduate of New Mexico State. A native of South Africa, he previously competed on the ATP Tour and earned world rankings as high as 974 in singles and 1,272 in doubles in 2001. He and his wife, Jessica, were married in 2005.
