Lending a hand with the throwers this season is student assistant coach Jennifer Gardner.

A former javelin specialist for the Rebels, Gardner threw a career best 151-09.00 at the 2001 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Her second-place mark at the conference meet (under the new standard) still remains a school record.

Prior to UNLV, Gardner was a two-year letterwinner in track and field at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, Ore. She twice finished in the top five in the javelin at the league championships, including a runner-up finish in 1998. Gardner earned junior college All-America accolades in 1998, registering a best toss of 146-05.00.

Recruited out of Steilacoom High School in Steilacoom, Wash., Gardner was a four-time district champion and four-time state qualifier in the javelin. She holds the school and district record in the event with a mark of 138-08.00.

A native of Lakewood, Wash., Gardner is the daughter of Bruce and Nancy Gardner and is currently completing her undergraduate coursework in public relations at UNLV.
