Rebels Win Four Events In Season-Opening Indoor Meet

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program posted four victories and a total of 24 top-eight finishes at Friday's Lumberjack Team Challenge, which was hosted by Northern Arizona and held at the Walkup Skydome.

Jasmyne Graham, a junior transfer from USC, won both the 60m hurdles (8.44) and long jump (18-10.75/5.76m) in her first competition as a Rebel. Her teammate MacKenna Howard, who returned to the Scarlet & Gray after a two-year LDS mission, won the shot put (52-5.50/15.99m).

The 4x400m relay, which was comprised of Najia and Nylia Hudspeth, Drea Austin and Avi'Tal Perteete, won its race behind a time of 3:45.70.

QUOTABLE: "It was a decent opener for us," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "We had a lot of good things happen in our first meet, but we still have work to do."

REBEL NOTES:
-Graham's 60m hurdles' time (8.44) and Najia Hudspeth's 400m time (54.47 PB/second place) were the fifth-best performances the program's indoor record book for their respective events.
-Drea Austin, who ran a leg of the winning 4x400m relay, finished second in both the 60m (7.43) and 200m (24.19) with a pair of indoor personal-best times.
-Jartierra Grissom finished second in the high jump with a measurement of 5-5 (1.65m).
-Cassidy Osborne-Butler finished second in the shot put with a measuremet of 45-10 (13.97m).

 

 

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: The Rebels will send a contingent of distance runners and pentathletes to Seattle next weekend (January 26-27) for the UW Invitational.
