Rebels Record Nine Top-Eight Finishes At Air Force|

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program recorded nine top-eight finishes on the final day of the Air Force Invitational Saturday. The Rebel contingent was led by Monay Meggs, who raced to second in the 200m (24.70) and third in the 400m with a personal-best time of 55.73 - one day after qualifying for both events on Friday.
UNLV placed fourth overall out of eight NCAA Division I squads with a total of 77 points at the meet held at the Cadet Field House in USAF Academy, Colo. In all, the Rebels were paced by 12 top-eight finishes in their two days at the three-day meet. Colorado State finished first with 113.5 points, and was followed by BYU (100) and Colorado (89).
"I was very pleased with the majority of performances this weekend," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "We were able to work out some kinks and gain some confidence for when we come back for the Mountain West Championships in five weeks."
Besides Meggs' showings, the Scarlet & Gray had three others place highly in a trio of sprints. Ashley Franklin gave UNLV two top-five finishers in the 200m, as she owned the fifth-best time of 25.55. Franklin also placed seventh in the 60m (7.69).
Erin Morris finished third (8.51) in the 60m hurdles after initially compiling a time of 8.60 in the prelims. Mandy Chitwood was fifth in the 800m (2:17.96), while the 4x400m "A" relay quartet was seventh (3:57.91).
The track & field program will take a week off before returning to action at the Mountain T's Invitational on Feb. 7-8 in Flagstaff, Ariz. It will be the second trip for the Rebels to the campus of Northern Arizona in less than a month.
