UNLV women's track and field had a strong day at the Mountain T's Indoor Invitational at Northern Arizona, with 10 Rebel athletes earning top-10 finishes along with several setting personal bests.
Rebel junior Kenya Polee finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 18'-1.75", the first time in her Rebel career that the junior cleared the 18-foot mark. Her previous indoor best was 17'-3.50" and her overall best came during the outdoor season last year with a leap of 17'-9.50". She was joined in the top 10 in the long jump by her younger sister Talyah Polee, who came in eighth with a distance of 14'-1.00"
The Polee's performance in the long-jump pit was one of many strong performances in the field events for the Rebels at the J.L. Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Sophomore thrower Olivia Raya won the open division of the shot put with a mark of 39'-9.75", which was also a career best for the native of Orange, Calif. In the Invite Division of the shot put, freshman Aja Evans came in eighth with a heave of 45'-9.75", which was also her career-best effort in the event. Monique Humphries came in sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 56'-11.50" and sophomore Claire Schreiner finished eighth in the high jump, clearing 5'-1.75".
On the track Desarae Tyson turned in a personal best in the 800 meters, finishing sixth in a time of 2:37.68 in the event. Tyson also finished seventh in the one mile with a time of 6:18.33, and it was the first time in the sophomore's career that she cracked the top 10 in an event at a meet.
Meia Tezeno finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.17 and Laura Lundin was eighth in the one-mile with a time of 6:22.71, both career bests. Ashley Patin and Aja Evans each earned 10th-place finishes as well, with Patin's coming in the 400 (1:00.9) and Evans' in the 60 meters (7.77).
