FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebel track and field team finished second overall Saturday at Northern Arizona's Team Challenge held at the Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff, Ariz. NAU took the team title with a tally of 87 points, which were two more than UNLV's total of 85. In all, the Rebels had three student-athletes win their respective events and a total of 24 top-10 finishes.
Ashley Henry and Chelsea Cassulo, who highlighted UNLV's effort in New Mexico's Cherry & Silver Invitational two weeks ago with their own record-setting performances, came out on top Saturday in the high jump and weight throw, respectively. Henry cleared a height of 5-7.00 (1.70m) to win the high jump, while Cassulo took the top spot in the weight throw with a distance of 62-6.00 (19.05m), which is the second-best toss in program history. She rewrote the record book on Jan. 21, in New Mexico with a 64-8.00 (19.71m) throw.
Lauren Petersen rounded out the trio of winners, as she finished first in the 3000m run with a time of 10:50.95.
"The team competed very well today," said head coach Yvonne Scott. "Some of them really stepped it up and showed what they are capable of doing for the team. We are three weeks away from our conference's indoor championships, so now it's just getting mentally prepared to compete at their fullest potential."
Stephanie Schafer followed Henry in the high jump with a second-place finish and a final measurement of 5-2.25.
Kelsey Williamson and Emily Blok finished second and fourth in the 400m with times of 56.44 and 56.75, respectively.
Erin Straughter posted a personal-best time of 8.91 in the 60m Hurdles, which placed her third overall.
Olivia Hudson took second in the triple jump with a distance of 34-9.50 (10.60m).
The Rebels head back to Flagstaff next weekend to partake in NAU's Lumberjack Invitational on Feb. 11-12.
