Chitwood Takes Third In 800m In Albuquerque

Don Kirby Invitational Final Results

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program recorded a trio of top-five finishes as well as numerous personal bests on the second and final day of New Mexico's Don Kirby Invitational at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Mandy Chitwood took third (2:12.72) in the 800m while Taylor Pegram was sixth (8.33) in the 60m hurdles and the 4x400m relay "A" foursome was fourth (3:46.38).

Chitwood also partnered with Stephanie Sawicki, Micayla Coquia and Yamilet Biggers finish eighth in the 4x400m relay as UNLV's "B" team. Najia Hudspeth, Nylia Hudspeth, Drea Austin and Destiny Smith-Barnett comprised the "A" team.

Danielle Williams and Ayana Gales posted personal-best marks in the triple jump for UNLV. The former finished 22nd with a measurement of 39-4 (11.99) that ranks as the fifth on the program's all-time indoor performance list while the latter was 23rd in 39-3 (11.96).

UNLV had a trio run in the 60m hurdles prelims with Pegram advancing to the final with a fifth-place time of 8.38 while Jaela Williams was 11th (8.47) and Amari Norris was 15th (8.61).

 

 

Austin and Kaysha Love competed in the 60m with 15th- (7.60) and 17th-place (7.61) finishes.

The Rebels got personal bests in the 400m from twin sisters Nylia Hudspeth (20th/56.18) and Najia Hudspeth (21st/56.27).

One day after she had a personal best in the long jump, Stella Clemens managed to tally another top mark Saturday in the shot put (40-7/12.37).

With two weeks until the Mountain West Indoor Championships, which will also be held at the Albuquerque Convention Center, the Scarlet & Gray has a total of 14 individuals ranked 19 times in the top 10 of 10 different events amongst Conference foes.

Gales ranks first overall in the long jump (20-3/6.17m) and is also seventh in the triple jump with help from Saturday's effort at the Don Kirby Invitational.

Destiny Smith-Barnett, Kaysee Pilgrim and Clemens are ranked second in the 60m (7.32), high jump (5-10.75/1.80m) and pentathlon (3,585 points), respectively. The team's 4x400m relay is ranked second, as well.

Additionally, Love and Austin are also in the top 10 in the 60m while the pair and Smith-Barnett are ranked between fourth and ninth in the 200m
