Spence Takes Runner-Up In High Jump

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV's Christine Spence turned in a runner-up performance in the women's high jump to hightlight the final day of action for the Rebels, as UNLV finished seventh at the 2004 Mountain West Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, hosted by Air Force at Cadet Field House.
Spence cleared a height of 5-08.75, right behind Lindsey Metcalf of BYU. That was the only top three finish of the championships for the Rebels. Kiyota Reed turned in a fifth place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.69, but teammate Miesha McClendon was disqualified in the finals. Also scoring for the Rebels on Saturday was the 4x400 yard relay team, as Gaven Jones, Deanna Appuglise, Reed, and Spence turned a time of 3:55.12, good for fourth place.
BYU ran away with the team title, scoring 224.50 points, almost double second place San Diego State's final tally of 129.5. Colorado State was third at 103, while Wyoming placed fourth at 88, Utah was fifth (67), New Mexico sixth (23), UNLV seventh (18), and Air Force was eighth (8).
