Feb. 28, 1998
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV scored 34 points and finished in a tie for seventh place on the strength of two outstanding performances by Hydianne Harper in the 55-meter and 200-meter dash events.
Harper finished in first place in both sprints, clocking times of 6.74 and 23.57 in the 55 meters and the 200 meters, respectively. Ayana Hutchinson was also a finalist in the 55 meters with her time of 6.88, which was good enough for seventh place. Angie Fortner ran to a seventh place finish in the mile run (10:30.24) and Jessica Marable finished fifth in the shot put (50-04.5) as UNLV's only other individual finalists. The mile relay and distance medley relay teams also scored points for the Rebels.
For her efforts Harper will compete in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 5-7 in Indianapolis, Ind.
