NCAA Qualifying Marks Made By Rebels

FULLERTON, Calif. - UNLV's Casey Lektorich (Spokane, Wash.) and Brigitte Ladouceur (Cayenne, French Guiana) turned in a pair of NCAA outdoor regional qualifying marks at the 2003 Ben Brown Track and Field Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton Saturday.
Lektorich, a senior, won the javelin title with a UNLV career best throw of 145-08.00 (44.41m) which surpassed the NCAA standard of 41.48m in the event. Ladouceur, a sophomore, placed third in the 100 meter hurdles with an NCAA regional qualifying time of 13.89 seconds.
Senior Tianika Sharrieff (Euless, Texas) also took top honors in the high jump event with a leap of 5-05.00 (1.65m). Other top finishers for the Rebels included sophomore Halima DeCree (Bakersfield, Calif.) in the 100 meters (11.96 - fourth), sophomore Michele Suszek (Alpena, Mich.) in the 3,000 meter run (10:26.60 - fourth) and sophomore Kiyota Reed (Los Angeles) in the 100 meter hurdles (14.55 - fifth).
Career bests were made by sophomore Kelley Wright (Houston, Texas) in the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:10.06 and sophomore Autumn Beza (Bunkerville, Nev.) in the discus throw with a toss of 95-04.00 (29.07m).
The Rebels will next return to action on Saturday, March 22 at the Aztec Classic in San Diego, Calif.
ON THE FAST TRACK: Former Rebel sprinters Ayanna Hutchinson and Nickeisha Charles, both of Trinidad and Tobago, competed at the Fullerton meet Saturday. Hutchinson placed seventh in the 100 meters with a time of 12.10 seconds, while Charles finished fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 55.27 seconds. Both are training for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens with hopes of making their country's national team.
