Bingson Earns NCAA All-America Status In Weight Throw
March 9, 2012
NAMPA, Idaho (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's Amanda Bingson finished seventh overall in the weight throw at the 2012 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Jacksons Indoor Track in Nampa, Idaho. Bingson's best toss was her fifth overall effort, which registered a distance of 65-6.25 (19.97m).
By virtue of finishing in the top eight of the weight throw field, Bingson earned NCAA All-American status for the second time in her career. The Las Vegas native was fourth overall in the hammer throw at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The senior became the first Rebel to earn indoor All-American recognition since Ashley Owens did so with a second-place finish in the 60 meters in 2006. Before today's finish, Jessica Marable (eighth-place shot put) was the last UNLV athlete to be named an indoor All-American in a throwing event dating back to 1999.
The UNLV track & field program returns to action next weekend in San Diego at San Diego State's Aztec Invitational. The two-day meet will take place next Friday and Saturday, March 16 and 17.
