March 18, 2017
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program wrapped up its three-day Spring Invitational/Sheila Tarr-Smith Multis Saturday at Myron Partridge Stadium & Sheila Tarr-Smith Field. The Scarlet & Gray notched nine victories on the day with a pair of those by Taylor Pegram in the 100m hurdles and the 4x100m relay team, both good enough to claim the top times in two of the program's all-time outdoor performance marks.
Pegram registered an outdoor and personal-best time of 13.43 in the 100m hurdles, 0.17 seconds faster than her previous personal-best she registered at last season's UC Riverside Spring Break Invitational. The 4x100m relay team, which consisted of Destiny Smith-Barnett, Kaysha Love, Najia Hudspeth and Drea Austin, led the way in a first-place time of 44.08, which is now first all-time on UNLV's outdoor program.
"This was a great start to the outdoor season," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "There were so many great performances and the energy was amazing. Our team shined today and will go into the rest of the season."
Besides the aforementioned wins, Hudspeth claimed two first-place finishes in the 100m (11.63) and 200m (23.67). The five other Rebels to capture wins were Spencer Moore (800m: 2:15.54), Nikki Regalado (5000m: 17:17.96), Kaysee Pilgrim (high jump: 5-9.25/1.76m), Tenia Landrum (long jump: 18-5.75/5.63m) and the 4x400m relay team of Micayla Coquia, Mandy Chitwood, Nylia Hudspeth and Madison Aldred in a time of 3:49.27.
Four others were able to amass personal bests on the day with two of those coming in the 400m alone from Mandy Chitwood (2nd: 55.73) and Sydney Land (8th: 57.15), who was also ninth in the 200m with a PB of 24.93. Rounding out those with their top marks were Vanessa Sierra in the discus throw (6th: 145-2/44.24m) and Lindy Eskin in the 1500m (18th: 4:56.94).
The Rebels hit the road for the first time during the outdoor campaign with a trip to San Diego, California, for the Aztec Invitational on March 24-25.
