Spence Strong In Outdoor Debut

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Christine Spence won the high jump and took eighth in the 200 meters in her first outdoor meet of 2005 to lead the UNLV women's track team at the 41st Annual Stanford Invitational.

Spence cleared 5'-10.00" to win the high jump and also crossed the finish line in a time of 24.98 to take eighth in the 200 and she was one of five Rebels to record top-10 finishes at the prestigious invitational.

Halima Decree recorded a fourth-place finish in the 100 meters with a time of 11.79 and Deanna Appuglise also finished fourth in the 400 meters, crossing the finish line in a time of 55.86. Brittney Bullocks ran a strong 400 race as well, finishing seventh with a time of 56.34. Miesha McClendon had the Rebels' other top-10 finish, crossing the finish line in a time of 13.92 in the 100 meter hurdles to come in seventh.

In the `B' section of competition UNLV had Lacey Bridges and Alayna Mills finish in the top 20. Mills tossed the hammer 131'-5.00" to finish 14 th and Bridges threw the javelin 113'-8.00" to finish 20 th.

UNLV has next weekend off before returning to the track at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, on April 8-9.
