Rebels Get 19 Top-Eight Finishes In San Diego

Monay Meggs finished third in the 400m Saturday at the Aztec Invite and also helped two relays to a pair of top-four showings

SAN DIEGO ( - The UNLV track & field program witnessed 15 individuals and four relay squads notch top-eight finishes on the third and final day of the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State Saturday. Auzsane Crowe-Carter had the highest placement for the Rebels with her 2:09.47 showing in the 800m run at the AzTrack at the SDSU Sports Deck.

The Scarlet & Gray had three fall between third and seventh in the 100m. Ashley Franklin led the way with her third-place showing in 12:07 while Kenia Bonilla was fourth (12:12) and Amber Sanford was seventh (12:32). Bonilla's 100m time was a personal best, as was her 200m (24.50).

Sanford also placed third in the triple jump (36-11.75/11.27m) and fifth in the long jump (18-10/5.74m).

In the 400m, Monay Meggs and Alva Castillo were third (54.31) and sixth (55.54 PB), respectively.

In the hurdles, Jordan Hardy was seventh (14.53) in the 100m version while Noela Estrada (1:02.24) and Joniece Ervin (1:02.61) had the third- and fourth-best times in the 400m.

The 4x400m relay saw the "A" quartet comprised of Castillo, Meggs, Mandy Chitwood and Crowe-Carter legged out a time of 3:46.34 for fourth. The "B" group of Estrada, Erin Bowers, Akia Armstrong and Ervin was seventh (3:54.53). The "C" edition of Hardy, Franklin, Kylee Vandenberg and Taylar Mills was eighth (3:56.28).



In the high jump, Madison Johonnot was fourth (5-4.50/1.64m) and Myra Dean was seventh (5-2.50/1.59m). Dean took sixth in the pole vault (10-0.50/3.06m).

The Rebels will return to the San Diego area next weekend for the Cal-Nevada Championships held April 4-5 in La Jolla.
