Vs Athletics Invitational Complete Results

A day after earning a pair of regional qualifying marks, the UNLV women's track and field team added another and also had several top-five finishes at the Vs Athletics Invitational on Saturday at the campus of Long Beach State University.

Rebel sophomore Meia Tezeno won the long jump with a regional-qualifying jump of 20'-3.00", which was just part of a strong day for the native of Richmond, Calif., as she won the 100-meter hurdles (14.29) and came in second in the 100 meters (12.02). A day earlier at the Pacific Coast Invitational in Carson, Calif., Tezeno won the 100-meter hurdles with a regional qualifying time of 13.87.

Tezeno was joined in the top-five in the 100 meters by teammates Lekeisha Lawson (3 rd, 12.09) and Lauren Johnson (4 th, 12.10) in an event that the Rebels dominated. Aja Evans (12.28) came in sixth and Talyah Polee (12.46) finished eighth overall. Also on the track, the Rebel 4x100 meter relay team came in second with a time of 47.09.

In the long jump pit Talyah Polee finished second with a distance of 18'-11.75", giving the Rebels a one-two finish in the event.

Off of the track and in the throwing events, Evans had a strong performance in the shot put ring for the Rebels as well. Evans heaved the steel ball 45'-4.25" to finish second overall and the mark was the fourth-best in UNLV history. Junior thrower Monique Humphries tossed the hammer 159'-5.00" to finish third in the event.

Those were not the only Rebels who performed well for head coach Barbara Ferrell-Edmonson and her staff of coaches.

Friday evening Charlotte Browning also ran a regional-qualifying time, finished fourth in the 1,500 meters at the MT Sac Relays with a time of 4:22.22, which is the third-fastest time in the event in UNLV history. Browning and fellow distance runner Jennifer Shearer, who ran an 18:15.09 in the 5,000 meters at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational at UCLA, both ran on Friday night for the Rebels.

UNLV will now return home to host its second meet of the outdoor season, the UNLV Invitational, tentatively set to run April 20-21 at Myron Partridge Stadium and Sheila Tarr-Smith Field. That will be the last home meet of the year for the Rebels, who have two regular season meets left before the MWC Outdoor Championships on May 9-12 in San Diego, Calif.
