UNLV Conducts Final Home Meet

LAS VEGAS - UNLV track and field wrapped up its two day invitational on Saturday at Myron Partridge Stadium and it was also the final home meet of the season for the Rebels.
The meet started Friday with the throwing events and then concluded today with the running portion of the meet, and several Rebels had strong times as they competed against athletes from Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The lone senior on the team, Ashley Patin, ran a time of 1:06.36 in the 400 meter hurdles in what was her last event at home in a Rebel uniform.
Friday was the official start of the meet and despite cooler temperatures and a strong breeze, the throwing events featured some strong performances. In the shot put Aja Evans hit a mark of 48'-8.50", in the discus Olivia Raya had a mark of 131'-1.00" and in the hammer throw Monique Humphries threw it 151'-7.50".
The running events were saved for Saturday and ideal conditions greeted the team with the sun shining and very little wind during the meet, which also runners from CSUDH.
Lauren Johnson won the 100 meters with a time of 11.9 and she was followed by Meia Tezeno (12.0) and Tanesha Carr (12.1). Tezeno also finished second in the 100 meter hurdles (14.23), finishing behind former UNLV great Christine Spence, who won the event with a time of 13.44. Spence was running unattached and also won the high jump on Friday.
Sophomore distance runner Jennifer Shearer ran a time of 18:29.95 in the 5,000 meters and she also recorded a time of 5:25.20 in the 1,500 meters, both meet bests. Charlotte Browing won the 800 meters in a time of 2:14.44 and the Rebel 4x100 relay team won with a time of 45.88.
UNLV will now travel to the Steve Scott Invitational held April 28 in Irvine, Calif. That will be the final regular season meet for the Rebels before the MWC Outdoor Championships, held may 9-12 in San Diego, Calif.
