Rebels Win Three Events At Bulldog Invite

The Rebels had six finish in the top eight of both the 100m and 400m hurdles at the Bulldog Invite.

CLOVIS, Calif. ( - The UNLV track & field team notched 39 top-eight finishes, including three wins in the 100m hurdles, 4x100m relay and hammer throw, at the 2014 Bulldog Invitational hosted by Fresno State. Erin Morris claimed the 100m hurdles in 13.81, while the 4x100m relay foursome of Ashley Franklin, Monay Meggs, Erin Morris and Kenia Bonilla ran 45.91 at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Cortney Miller won the hammer throw with a personal-best throw of 192-11 (58.81) - that ranks third best in UNLV's outdoor performance list - at a portion of the meet that was held Fresno State's Warmerdam Field.

Besides running portions of the aforementioned relay, Meggs was second in both the 100m (11.82 PB) and 200m (23.97), and Franklin was fifth in the former race (12.06). Micayla Coquia also ran the 100m and was eighth (12.24). Laura Anuakpado was the second Rebel to score in the 200m (24.79) with a ninth-place finish.

The Scarlet & Gray had a minimum of four student-athletes finish in the top eight in the 400m, 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles. In the 400m, Anuakpado was third (55.99), Bonilla was fifth (56.62), Alva Castillo was seventh (57.39) and Noela Estrada was eighth (57.64).



In the hurdles, Estrada was second in the 400 discipline (1:02.31). Joniece Ervin was second in the 100m (14.02) and third in the 400m (1:03.47). Two others placed in both races with Erin Bowers coming in fifth in the 100m (14.87) and sixth in the 400m (1:05.13), while Juliet Summers-Hernandez was sixth (14.93) in the 100m and eighth in the 400m (1:07.16). Jordan Hardy and Taylar Mills were fourth (14.74) and seventh (14.96) in the 100m hurdles, respectively. Kylee Vandenberg (fifth/1:04.94), Erin Bowers (sixth/1:05.13) and Janeek Mollique (seventh/1:06.44) rounded out the top eight in the 400m hurdles.

Rhea Hill and Iris Munguia finished consecutively in the 800m. Hill was sixth (2:22.88) and Munguia was seventh (2:25.88).

Heather Hernandez-Shaw was second in the 1500 (4:47.55) and seventh in the 3000m (10:52.23).

The Rebels had a pair of 4x400m relays finish third (3:51.82) and fourth (3:56.95).

Off the track, UNLV had three place in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. Madison Johonnot (5-5.75/1.67m) was second in the high jump, while Jazmyne Bartee and Myra Dean tied for sixth with identical 5-3.75 (1.62m) marks. Olivia Hudson was third in the long jump (18-4.5/5.60m) and seventh in the triple jump (37-7.25/11.46m). Akia Armstrong was fourth in the long jump (18-4.25/5.59m) and eighth in the triple jump (34-0/10.36m). Krystal Wharton was second (18-11.25/5.77m) in the long jump, while Mills was sixth in the triple jump (37-10.5/11.54m).

Kyra Day joined Miller in the top eight of the hammer with an eighth-place showing (137-10/42.01m), while Vanessa Sierra was fifth in the shot put (41-1/12.52m).

The Rebels are back in action May 3-4 in Irvine, Calif., at the Steve Scott Invitational.
