Rebels Score Five Top-Eight Finishes In Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program picked up five top-eight finishes on the first day of the Steve Scott Invitational at Anteater Stadium in Irvine, Calif. Cortney Miller won the hammer throw with a measurement of 170-9 (52.04m), while four Rebels placed between third and eighth in the long jump.

Ayana Gales led the long jump contingent with a leap of 18-10.50 (5.75m). Krystal Wharton was fifth (18-6/5.64m), while Taylar Mills was seventh (17-9.75/5.43m) and Juliet Summers was eighth (17-4.75/5.30m).

Amanda Berg and Sara Williams set personal bests in the 5000m with the former running an 18:31.55 (10th) and the latter registering a 19:56.44 (19th).

Myshauna Alexander joined Miller in the hammer, and she threw a 149-8 (45.62m) for ninth place.

The Invitational concludes on Sunday at Anteater Stadium with the men's shot put and the women's 4x100m relay at noon. The meet ends in the field with the women's shot put at 3:00 pm, while the men's 4x400m relay is set for 5:10 pm.
