April 28, 2012
IRVINE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team participated in five events in Saturday's portion of UC Irvine's adidas/Steve Scott Invitational held at Anteater Stadium. Larissa Davis claimed first place in the 3000m steeplechase, while Deja Edwards took second in the long jump with a personal-best leap.
Davis' steeplechase victory was her second in as many outings, as she claimed the top spot in Cal State Los Angeles' Twilight Open. Her final time of 11:37.03 today was 4.66 seconds faster than last week's showing.
Edwards was one of six Rebels to compete in the long jump, and her 19-8.00 (5.99m) was good enough for second place. Olivia Hudson and Ria Daniels tied for seventh with identical measurements of 18-5.75 (5.63m). Hudson's jump was a personal best. Also competing in the long jump were Krystal Wharton (18-0.25 / 5.49m PB), Ashley Henry (16-10.75 / 5.15m) and Taylar Mills (16-8.50 / 5.09m PB).
Lauren Petersen finished 15th overall in the 5000m in a time of 18:49.06, while Taylar Mills finished ninth in the javelin (119-7 / 36.44m PB) and Adrianna Oliva was 19th in the hammer (137-0 / 41.79m).
The Rebels are back in action Sunday in the final day of the adidas/Steve Scott Invitational.
