Rebels Mark Career Bests At Steve Scott Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. - Several members of the UNLV women's track and field team set new career and season bests at the Steve Scott Invitational held Saturday at UC Irvine's Anteater Stadium.
Sophomore Miesha McClendon (Pasadena, Calif.) finished second in her heat with a career and season best time of 14.40 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles. She would go on to place 10th in the event. Fellow sophomore Michel Hunt (Los Angeles, Calif.) also marked a career and season best time of 58.64 in the 400 meters.
For the fifth time this season, senior Casey Lektorich (Spokane, Wash.) took top honors in the javelin with a winning throw of 145-02.00, while distance runners Lauren McCarty (Peoria, Ariz.) and Kelley Wright (Houston, Texas) both made top 15 finishes in the 5,000 meters. McCarty clocked in a career and season best time of 19:15.37 for eighth and Wright went 19:55.87 for 12th.
In field events, freshman Angie Turner (Las Vegas) placed eighth in the shot put (41-09.25) and 13th in the hammer throw (138-01.00), both career and season bests for the rookie. Senior Tianika Sharrieff (Euless, Texas) tied for third in the high jump with a leap of 5-03.00.
The Rebels will close out the outdoor regular season next week at the Occidental College Invitational on Saturday, May 10 in Los Angeles, prior to the 2003 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 14-17 in Albuquerque, N.M.
