IRVINE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team had 14 top-eight finishes on the second and final day of UC Irvine's 20th Annual adidas/Steve Scott Invitational. The Rebels were led by victories in the 800m, 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay. Auzsane Crowe-Carter was a key contributor for the Scarlet & Gray, as she won the 800m in a time of 2:06.36 and later in the day ran the final leg of the 4x400m relay (3:41.83). Kenia Bonilla ran a portion of both relays to factor in a pair of the wins.
"I am extremely pleased with how the Rebels competed this weekend," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "Although we had some good improvements in performance, they really showed up for each other and that made a big difference."
Bonilla teamed up with Ashley Franklin, Monay Meggs and Erin Morris for a season-best and Mountain West-leading time of 45.42 in the 4x100m relay, while she and Crowe-Carter were partnered with Alva Castillo and Mandy Chitwood in the 4x400m.
Besides running in the shorter relay, Morris pulled in a pair of seventh-place finishes in the 100m (11.99 PB) and the 100m hurdles (13.80 SB).
Meggs and Castillo took third (54.35) and eighth (55.98), respectively, in the 400m.
Off the track, Myra Dean and Jazmyne Bartee tied for fifth in the high jump with identical 5-3 (1.60m) measurements. Taylar Mills took fifth in the triple jump (38-6.25/11.74m), while Amber Sanford finished two spots behind in seventh (38-4/11.68m).
The Rebel track & field team will take next week off in preparation for the MW Outdoor Championships in Laramie, Wyo., that run May 14-17.
