AUSTIN (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team had four student-athletes advance to Friday's quarterfinal action after their first-round performances at the 2012 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Preliminary Championship. Emily Blok and Brett Zorich ran personal-best times in the 100m (11.53) and 800m (2:07.64), respectively, on the first day of the three-day meet hosted by the University of Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Zorich, who was third in her heat, was not the only Rebel to advance out of the 800m first round. Her teammate Kelsey Williamson won her heat with a time of 2:09.31.
Blok finished second overall in her heat to advance to tomorrow's 100m action prior to her first round appearance in the 200m.
Christine Lowe rounded out Thursday's foursome to move on to quarterfinal action with her 59.57 showing in the 400m hurdles.
All four student-athletes will need to finish third or better in their quarterfinal heats or have one of the three remaining best times to advance to the 2012 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Des Moines, Iowa on June 6-9.
UNLV had two other student-athletes participate in Thursday's action. Myshauna Alexander finished 19th overall in the javelin with a toss of 151-3 (46.11m). Deja Edwards leaped 18-9.25 (5.72m) to finish 38th in the long jump.
