AUSTIN (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team got some strong showings from Emily Blok, Myshauna Alexander and its 4x100m relay - a quartet that Blok was a member of - on the third and final day of the 2013 NCAA West Preliminary in Austin. By virtue of their finishes on Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium, the Rebels will send the two individuals and the relay foursome to Eugene, Ore., for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in two weeks (June 5-8).
"After a disappointing first couple of days, we are so proud of these young women for pulling it together and qualifying on to the NCAA finals," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "It was a long and emotional week and they really stepped it up today."
Alexander finished ninth overall in the javelin with a throw of 160-0 (48.76m), which was the ninth best registered on the day. The measurement was also a personal best and it upped her third-place standing in UNLV's outdoor performance list.
Blok partnered with Uchechi Anunkor, Ashley Franklin and Monay Meggs in the relay for a 10th-place finish in the one-lap race. The quartet finished fourth in its heat with its time of 44.79 earning them the first of three spots reserved for those that were not automatic qualifiers.
Later in the day, Blok ran in the 200m quarterfinals and - similar to the relay - placed fourth in her heat with a time of 23.65. Her effort was the 11th best out of 24 racers.
Unfortunately, UNLV's Taylar Mills saw her season come to an end with a 40th-place showing in the triple jump. Mills registered a measurement of 39-1.25 (11.92)
