Relay Squad Earns Trip To Eugene|

AUSTIN, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 25 UNLV track & field team’s 4x100m relay team punched their ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships on the third and final day of the 2017 NCAA West Preliminary at the University of Texas’ Mike A. Myers Stadium. With the conclusion of the regional meet, the Rebels will send Kaysee Pilgrim (high jump), Destiny Smith-Barnett (100m) and the 4x100m relay team to Eugene, Oregon, for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in two weeks (June 7-10).
"I’m extremely proud of how the Rebels competed this weekend,” said head coach Yvonne Wade. “We had some unfortunate things happen, but we still advanced some student-athletes to Eugene. Now we have two weeks to put some more work in."
The Scarlet & Gray's foursome of Smith-Barnett, Kaysha Love, Taylor Pegram and Drea Austin finished 11th overall in the 4x100m relay with a time of 44.58. UNLV was .01 seconds faster than Missouri’s foursome, which claimed the 12th and final qualifying spot - just .05 seconds faster than Iowa - for the national meet.
Austin (23.48) and Smith-Barnett (23.49) also ran in the 200m finishing 19th and 21st, respectively, while Pegram was 19th (13.38) in the 100m hurdles.
Overall, the Rebels had nine of their own qualify for this week's NCAA meet in the Lone Star State. UNLV was represented by Smith-Barnett (100m, 200m and 4x100m relay), Austin (100m, 200m and relays), Najia Hudspeth (100m, 200m and relays), Chitwood (800m and 4x400m relay), Pegram (100m hurdles, and 4x100m relay), Jaela Williams (100m hurdles), Nylia Hudspeth (4x400m relay), Love (4x400m relay), Coquia (4x400m relay) and Pilgrim (high jump).
