UNLV women's track and field had a trio of student-athletes run during a hot Friday at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas, which is being held at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Despite temperatures in the mid 90s, UNLV senior Chauncey David-Jacobs posted a season-best time in the 400 meters, clocking a 54.07, which 16 th overall in the meet. She was four spots away from qualifying for a spot in the NCAA Championships, as the top 12 finishers in each event advance to the national meet.
David-Jacobs also ran in the 200 meters, advancing to the quarterfinals in the event with a time of 23.95, and she will run tomorrow looking to advance to the national championships. The 200 meter quarterfinals are slated to start at about 5:50 p.m. (PT).
Also running for the Rebels was senior Candise Maxwell, who turned in a time of 14.16 in the 100-meter hurdle preliminaries, missing a spot in Saturday's quarterfinals. UNLV junior Sarah Muniz finished 39th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:01.76.
Saturday afternoon Bailey Kuestermeyer will run in the 5,000 meters while Amanda Bingson will look to advance to the NCAA Championships in the hammer throw. Bingson currently ranks second in the region with a distance of 210-2.00, which is the UNLV school record. Also hitting the track on Saturday will be the Rebels' 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams.
