UNLV Track Closes Indoor Regular Season
LINCOLN, Neb. - Two Rebels earned NCAA Championships provisional qualifying marks as UNLV closed its 1998 indoor regular-season schedule at the annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational Saturday.
Sophomore Jessica Marable's shot put throw of 49-feet-8.5-inches tied her own school-best mark set just last week at a meet in Reno. It earned her 9th place Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
After winning her qualifying heat Friday, senior sprinter Hydianne Harper took second place overall Saturday in the 200-meter dash with a provisional time of 24.16 seconds - just .08 seconds behind winner Jacqueline Horton of Oklahoma.
Harper also took fourth place in the 55-meter dash finals with a time of 6.96 seconds.
Other results included senior Angie Fortner taking seventh in the 3,000-meter run with a season-best time of 9:57.18 minutes - the fifth-fastest time among WAC competitors this year.
Senior Denise Danielson took 10th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:38 minutes, which marks the third-best time in the WAC this season.
The Rebels' distance medley relay team took 10th overall but recorded the conference's best time of the season at 12:02 minutes. UNLV next travels to the WAC Indoor Championships at Colorado Springs, Colo., on Feb. 26-28.
