ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - Former UNLV track & field student-athlete Lekeisha Lawson finished second overall at the 2014 USA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Albuquerque Sunday. Lawson's time of 7.09 in the 60m final was a personal best, and it earned her an opportunity to compete at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland (March 7-9) for Team USA.
In all three of her races at the Albuquerque Convention Center, Lawson finished first or second. She clocked a time of 7.19 to top all participants in her preliminary heat Saturday. On Sunday, she legged out a 7.20 in the second heat of the semifinal before shaving .11 off one race later in the finale.
Coincidentally, Lawson notched her previous best (7.10) at the same venue one year ago at the indoor national championship.
Lawson was not the only Rebel alum to compete at this weekend's meet, as Amanda Bingson, a 2012 Summer Olympian and the current American record holder in the hammer throw, participated in the weight throw. Bingson uncorked a personal-best toss of 73-6.75 (22.42m) to place fifth in the event.
