Feb. 28, 2013
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program will have four members compete at the Alex Wilson Invitational at the Loftus Sports Center in Notre Dame, Ind., on Saturday afternoon. Emily Blok will compete in the 60m and 200m races - the same events that she won last week at the Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships - while Kelsey Williamson, Corey Honeycutt and Laura Affeld will run in the 800m.
Blok and Williamson sit 30th or better in national rankings. The former is 26th in the 200m (23.63) and 30th in the 60m (7.38) while the latter is 14th in the 800m (2:06.06).
The Invitational is the final indoor competition - last-chance qualifier - prior to the NCAA Indoor Championships (March 8-9), which will be held in Fayetteville, Ark., at Randal Tyson Track.
Besides this weekend's indoor meet, the Rebels will open up the outdoor season in their own UNLV Track Classic on Friday and Saturday. The two-day event will be hosted on campus at Myron Partridge Stadium and Sheila Tarr-Smith Field.
Friday's action gets started at 2:30 pm on both the track (distance medley relay) and the field (pole vault). Overall, there will be three other events contested on the track - 5K (3:00 pm), Steeplechase (3:40 pm) and 10L (4:15 pm). Besides the pole vault, the javelin will take place at 3:00 pm on the field. All of Friday's events will see the women compete before the men.
On Saturday, there will be a total of 15 events taking place with the hammer throw, long jump and high jump getting the field events underway at 10:00 am. The track's first action will be the 4x100m at 11:30 am.
