Outdoor Season Begins At Home
March 6, 2014
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Fresh off the heels of the completion of this season's indoor track & field season, the Rebel track & field program will transition to the outdoor portion of its schedule with its own UNLV Track Classic this weekend. The two-day event will take place Friday and Saturday (March 7-8) at the Myron Partridge Stadium and Sheila Tarr-Smith Field on the campus of UNLV.
The Scarlet & Gray will welcome Alaska-Anchorage, Southern Utah, Utah Valley and Colorado College to Las Vegas this weekend.
Friday's slate will start at 3:00 pm with three field events (javelin, pole vault and long jump) before the women's 3000m steeplechase kicks off the track schedule at 3:30 pm. The men's steeplechase (3:45 pm) and women's 5000m (4:00 pm) will follow suit until the shot put and men's 5000m conclude the day's activities at 4:30 pm.
Saturday's action starts earlier with all four field events (hammer throw, high jump, triple jump and discus) beginning at 10:00 am before the women's 4x100m relay at noon. Nine more events will be contested with the 4x400m relay closing down the meet at 3:00 pm.
"We are excited to start the outdoor season at home, as usual," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "It is an opportunity for our team to start the season off with some good marks and competition."
Just last week at the Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships, Monay Meggs finished first in the 400m with a personal-best time, while helping the 4x400m relay to a first-place showing. Meggs was also fourth in the 200m.
Besides Meggs, Erin Morris (60m hurdles), Cortney Miller (weight throw) and Adrianna Oliva (shot put) had strong showings in Colorado Springs, Colo., as did a trio of 800m runners (Auzsane Crowe-Carter, Mandy Chitwood and Laura Affeld).
