LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -
The UNLV track & field team will participate in the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State this weekend. The meet is actually three days long, beginning today, but UNLV will only compete in Friday and Saturday's competition.
The Rebels are one of 18 collegiate programs competing in the field. Joining the Scarlet and Gray are the Academy of Art, BYU, Cal State Fullerton, Golden West, Hawai'i, Long Beach State, Minnesota, North Dakota State, UC Riverside, South Dakota, Southern Utah, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, Utah, Utah Valley, UT-San Antonio and Weber State. Numerous club teams are set to participate, as well.
The meet isn't restricted to only collegiate and club teams, but a high school section is included that will bring the competitor figure to over 1,600.
This weekend's action will be the first for the Rebels since they hosted their own UNLV Track Classic two weekends ago. In that meet, UNLV rattled off seven first-place showings and had a total of 40 top-eight placements in 19 events.
