A Bump In The Road
March 27, 2008
Las Vegas - Despite some bumps and bruises and with the hope of continuing their improvement, UNLV heads back to California, this time to Fresno for the Cal-Nevada Championship Friday and Saturday at Waterdam Field.
Some competitors expected at the Cal-Nevada Championship are teams such as UCLA, Nevada, San Diego State, CSU Northridge, Cal Poly Pomona, Fresno State and UC San Diego. UNLV, though, will be without some key competitors this meet as the team nurses through some minor injuries.
"We left a lot of our athletes at home this meet," says Yvonne Scott-Williams.
Lekeisha Lawson and Kenya Polee are both at home with some small injuries. Scott-Williams hopes this weekend will give those hampered by injuries some time off to help them recover for the rest of the season and for the athletes that are competing to continue to improve.
"Expect good performances from the athletes that are here and for them to improve their times," says Scott-Williams.
Student-athletes to look for are Lauren Johnson in the 100 and 200 meter dash, Brittney Bullocks in the 400, Charlotte Browning in the 800, Olivia Raya in the shot put and Monique Humphries in the shot put and hammer throw. Also look for the relay team to make some noise in the 4x100 and the 4x400.
On Friday the preliminaries start at 10:00 a.m. (PT) with the men's hammer throw and events for the day conclude at 6:00 p.m. with the women's 5000 meter finals. Saturday's events start at 10:00 a.m. with the men's hammer throw final and conclude with men's 4x400 relay at 5:05 p.m.
