Rebels To Host Invitational

LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's track and field team will host its only home meet of the year on Saturday, a one-day event at Myron Partridge Stadium and Sheila Tarr-Smith field that will feature a 12-team field.
The meet is slated to start at 8:00 a.m. (PST) with the women's hammer throw and the first running event is the women's steeplechase at 9:30 a.m. The meet will run through the entire day with the last event being the men's 4x100 relay, which is scheduled to start at 4:20 p.m.
The Rebels will be joined in the field by Cal State Dominguez Hills, Dayton, Long Island, Manhattan, Nevada-Reno, Northern Arizona, San Diego Mesa, Southern Illinois, St. John's, Texas Tech and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Unattached runners and other individuals will also be at the meet.
UNLV freshman Lekeisha Lawson enters the meet this Saturday with some of the top sprinting times in the Mountain West Conference with an 11.97 (3rd) in the 100 and a 25.17 (9th) in the 200 meters. Overall the Rebels have three of the top 10 times in the league in the 100, with Lauren Johnson running a 12.19 (6th) and Tanesha Carr clocking a 12.22 (7th). Johnson also sports the fourth-fastest time in the 200 meters with a 24.91. Brittney Bullocks currently has the sixth-fastest mark in the 400 meters (56.70).
This will be the third consecutive weekend that the Rebels have been in competition, as UNLV opened its outdoor season with the Aztec Classic on March 18 and the ASU Invite on March 25. Following the UNLV Invite, the Rebels will take next weekend off before continuing their season at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 14-16.
