Double The Competiton
April 3, 2008
Las Vegas - It's the first dual meet of the season, UNLV prepares for the Stanford Invitational at Cobb track and Angel field in Palo Alto, California and the Pomona Pitzer Invitation at Strehle track in Claremont, California.
This year the Rebels are choosing to send only one student- athlete to Stanford, which will be Charlotte Browning. Browning will be facing some of the elite teams in the country. Expected at the Stanford Invitational are teams such as Arkansas, Wisconsin, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Baylor, Florida State, Tennessee, and BYU.
The rest of the team will head to the Pitzer Invitational in Claremont, Calif. where they will face competition such as San Diego State, Fresno Pacific, Cal Poly Pomona and others.
Expect the UNLV student-athletes to mix it up a bit at the Pitzer Invitational.
"We will give the athletes a chance to compete in some fun events and get a weekend away from their specialties. This still allows them to get into the spirit of competition and gives their bodies and minds a break," says Yvonne Scott-Williams.
Browning will be participating in the 1500 meter race in Stanford. Scott- Williams expects that Browning will do very well at this meet which is considered a premier meet for distance runners.
