Rebels Have Strong Showings In San Diego|

SAN DIEGO (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team had some strong performances on the first day of the 21st Annual Cal-Nevada Championships at UC San Diego's Triton Track & Field Stadium. The squad had three qualify for Saturday's finals in the long jump and two more in both the 100m, 200m, 400m and 400m hurdles.
The long jump kicked off the day's action for UNLV and a trio of them moved on to Saturday's finals. Krystal Wharton and Olivia Hudson jumped 19-6.25 (5.95m PR) and 19-2.75 (5.86m), respectively. Both distances were personal bests. Amber Sanford had a distance of 19-2.00 (5.84m).
In the discus, Vanessa Sierra threw a 137-6 (41.91m).
More than 20 different schools from both California and Nevada have entered this weekend's meet, including: Sacramento State, UNLV (women only), Long Beach State, UC Riverside, Cal State L.A., Cal State Fullerton, Cal Poly Pomona, San Diego State (women only), Pomona-Pitzer, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Cal State San Marcos, Whittier, Azusa Pacific, USC, Point Loma (women only), Pepperdine, Cal Lutheran, Loyola Marymount, Caltech, UC Irvine, Occidental, Soka, San Diego, Westmont, Cal State Stanislaus, La Verne (women only) and Concordia Irvine.
