LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's track and field team continues its outdoor season at the Triton Invitational, a two-day meet that gets underway Friday at the Triton Track and Field Stadium on the campus of UC San Diego.
The Rebels will be part of a field that features more than 75 schools that will feature some of the top programs in the country, including Arizona State, Auburn, Tennessee, UCLA, Kentucky and Kansas, as well as California schools, including San Diego State, Long Beach State and the host Tritons. Also, several individual standouts are expected to be at the meet, including world leaders Ryan Whiting (men's shot put) and Jason Young (men's discus), as well as 2004 gold medalist Felix Sanchez, who will be competing in the men's 400.
UNLV is coming off a strong performance at the Mt. SAC Relays and the Beach Invitational in which two school records and a freshman mark were set.
The meet will get underway Friday with five events, including the women's hammer throw at 10:00 a.m. (PT), where Rebels sophomore Amanda Bingson will look to add to her school record of 193-1.00, which she set last weekend. Saturday gets started at 10:00 a.m. (PT) with the men's hammer, and the first women's field event will be the javelin at 11:00 a.m. The first event on the track is the 400-meter relay at 11:00 a.m., and the meet will conclude with the men's 10,000 meters at 7:30 p.m.
