Rebels Claim Three Wins Saturday In Irvine|

IRVINE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team had 13 top-eight finishes on the second and final day of UC Irvine's 22nd Annual adidas/Steve Scott Invitational. The Rebels claimed victories in the 200m, high jump and 4x100m relay. Drea Austin was a key contributor for the Scarlet & Gray, as she won the 200m with a time of 23.48 and helped the 4x100m relay team to a first-place finish (44.88).
"Today was a fun day. We wanted to see how the team would compete two weeks out of conference and they really stepped up in most events," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "We are still putting the last minute pieces together but they are looking good!"
Austin teamed up with Micayla Coquia, Destiny Smith-Barnett and Ayana Gales for a season-best and Mountain West-leading time of 44.88 in the 4x100m relay. Besides running in the shorter relay, Austin pulled in a sixth-place finish in the 100m (11.73 SB). Rounding out the relay teams were Mandy Chitwood, Auzsane Crowe-Carter, Coquia and Summer Crawley in the 4x400m relay with a third-place time of 3:46.90.
In the 800m, Crowe-Carter ran a season-best time to finish third in 2:06.76, while Chitwood took eighth in 2:09.08 and Lindy Eskin claimed a personal-best time of 2:25.21.
Other notable performances in Irvine came in the 100m hurdles by Taylor Pegram (fifth: 13.96), Amari Norris (eighth: 14.09) Joniece Ervin (tenth: 14.14) and Stella Clemens (15.41: PB). The 400m hurdles was highlighted by Ervin (seventh: 1:02.14) and Crawley (1:04.16: PB), while Miranda Menzies claimed a personal-best time in the 1500m (4:36.97).
The Rebel track & field team will take next week off in preparation for the MW Outdoor Championships in Clovis, Calif., at Buchanan High School's Veterans Memorial Stadium hosted by Fresno State that runs May 11-14.
