LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - After taking a week off following the 2013 Mountain West Outdoor Championships, the UNLV track & field program will resume competition at the NCAA West Preliminary in Austin on May 23-25. A total of eight individuals will travel to Central Texas and Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas for an opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 5-8.
Half of the Rebels traveling to the Lone Star State will run in prelim rounds for their respective events on Thursday. Uchechi Anunkor (Heat 3) and Emily Blok (Heat 5) kick off UNLV's participation in the 100m at approximately 6:30 pm CT (4:30 pm PT). Monay Meggs (Heat 1) will take to the track at 7:20 pm CT (5:20 pm PT) for the 400m, while Auzsane Crowe-Carter (Heat 4) will follow suit in the 800m about 50 minutes later. The semis of all three events will take place on Friday.
Blok, Anunkor and Meggs will also run in the 200m (Friday/Saturday) and the 4x100m relay (Saturday). The trio will be joined by Ashley Franklin, who rounds out the foursome.
Erin Morris will be the last Rebel to see action on the track with her participation in the 100m hurdles, which begins on Friday. The semis for the event will follow on Saturday.
Both Taylar Mills and Myshauna Alexander make appearances in their respective field events on day three of the meet. Mills will compete in the triple jump, while Alexander looks to build upon her conference title in the javelin throw.
This is the second straight year that Texas and Myers Stadium has played host to the West Prelims. Former Rebels Amanda Bingson and Brett Zorich performed well at the 2012 edition and both qualified for the national championships.
To qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in two weeks, athletes with the top 12 times/marks and the 12 best relay teams at both the East and West prelims will advance to Eugene.
