June 6, 2017
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program will send seven student-athletes to Eugene, Oregon, for the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Destiny Smith-Barnett, Kaysee Pilgrim and the 4x100m team will participate in the four-day meet that begins Wednesday (June 7) and runs through Saturday (June 10) at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field.
Smith-Barnett is also scheduled to compete in the 100m semifinals Thursday at 5:46 pm. The Oakland, California, native is seeded ninth after she clocked a time of 11.24 at the NCAA West Preliminary in Austin, Texas, two weeks ago. She etched her name on the program's all-time outdoor list with its second-best performance at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships with a time of 10.94-w - the second fastest by an NCAA student-athlete this season.
Pilgrim, who hails from Phoenix, qualified for the national meet after she tied for the top mark at the West Prelim with a height of 5-10.5 (1.79m) in the high jump; however, she must wait until 3:00 pm Saturday for her event to take place. She sits atop the NCAA’s standings with a jump of 6-2.75 (1.90m) that not only broke her own UNLV record, but also two of the MW’s.
